Thermal influence of living wall in the winter of subtropical climate in Brazil

The continuous living wall is a type of vertical garden built with different layers, which allows the cultivation wide variety species and protects façade from direct sunlight. From this, this experimental study aimed to identify quantify influence on variations internal external surface temperatures (Ist Est) an East façade, in winter period, Cfa climate. had differential being Tetrapak® recycled boards differentiate it other technologies already studied test material used environmental compensation projects. wall, protected control plot were monitored compared analyze intensity shading mechanism. results demonstrate that, early morning, prevented heat loss and, sunlight, kept plot's lower than plot. This difference reached up 9.4 °C at Est (morning period) 2.8 Ist (afternoon period), as well maximum thermal delay 06h30min between peaks. These findings show positive winter, considering characteristics climate (cold morning hot during day), expand knowledge about building reinforce use walls beyond aesthetics.
